Generalized hypergeometric functions and the evaluation of scalar one-loop integrals in Feynman diagrams

Present and future high-precision tests of the Standard Model and beyond for the fundamental constituents and interactions in Nature are demanding complex perturbative calculations involving multi-leg and multi-loop Feynman diagrams. Currently, large effort is devoted to the search for closed expressions of loop integrals, written whenever possible in terms of known - often hypergeometric-type - functions. In this work, the scalar three-point function is re-evaluated by means of generalized hypergeometric functions of two variables. Finally, use is made of the connection between such Appell functions and dilogarithms coming from a previous investigation, to recover well-known results.

Fourier series for elliptic integrals and some generalizations via hypergeometric series

Fourier series are derived for generalizations of the three canonical Legendre incomplete elliptic integrals using a hypergeometric series approach. The Fourier series for the incomplete Epstein–Hubbell integrals are obtained as special cases of the generalization of the Legendre integrals of the first and second kinds. The Fourier series for the integrals of the first and second kinds, and those for the Epstein–Hubbell integrals, were obtained recently using a different approach, but the series obtained for the generalization of the incomplete integral of the third kind is new. Reasoning with paper and pencil: The role of inscriptions in student learning of geometric series

The purpose of this article is to analyse how students use inscriptions as tools for thinking and learning in mathematical problem-solving activities. The empirical context is that of learning about geometric series in a small group setting. What has been analysed is how students made use of inscriptions, self-made as well as those provided by text books and teachers, and the role these inscriptions played in the coordination of students’ learning/communication.
